playing in the mud

domestic devotion

Oh how dirty this little boy likes to get.  Thank goodness I am one who believes that childhood includes dirt under your fingernails on  a regular basis.  Recently at a park a little girl came over to the sandbox and her mom grabbed her hand and led her away from it saying, “We do not play with sand.  That is disgusting.”  I felt bad for the little girl.  I assume that one day there will be something E wants to do and that I may not be into it.  I hope that I can do it anyway, seeing it through his eyes and still find some enjoyment in it.

We had some leftover fill dirt from my raised garden bed and spread it around an area of our yard that we were landscaping.  When combined with water it made some fantastic mud and I let Emmet get a good play in it before we covered it with wood chips.  He had a blast.  That little metal watering can is one of my best purchases for outside play.  He loves to fill it up and dump it out, usually down his front.  Anytime I have the hose out he comes running with it.  We change out of wet clothes often!

Oh, how I love this!! We just built Nora a sand box in our backyard, and she loves it. It’s a huge mess, and I practically have to hose her down before we come back in the house (okay, I literally have to hose her down sometimes…), but it’s so worth it. She is also endlessly entertained by the stunned bugs that drop down below our bug zapper. Bzzzz…

You have a bug zapper?! BRILLIANT! Everyone who moves to Texas should have one. We need a sandbox around here. I think hubby has hung up his project gear until fall when it cools down a bit. You know, in October.

I can’t imagine not allowing a little one to play in the dirt. It’s like a right of passage as a toddler! These pictures are priceless and one’s I’m sure you’ll look back in with a smile for many, many years to come! Kale is also very happy being outdoors, playing with water. The difference between our boys? Kale will not tolerate wet clothes! He strips down to his birthday suit as soon as we step into the backyard!

Too cute! I think it will be fun to watch Lucas play in the dirt once he can walk.
